Welcome to Goodstart Early Learning Hawthorne

Our family-friendly centre, in a beautiful old church, offers well-designed, cosy learning spaces. We have a small, passionate team focused on nurturing and teaching children from 15 months to school age. We offer long daycare and kindergarten programs and we pride ourselves on being a family-oriented centre.

We have a small, dedicated team of educators, some who have worked here for many years. Our educators are qualified, highly experienced, and passionate about our centre, children, our families and the community.

At Goodstart Hawthorne we believe in fostering a love of learning from an early age. Our curriculum is designed to cater to each child's individual needs, promoting cognitive, social, and emotional development through play-based learning activities. 
Our team of experienced and dedicated educators is committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and stimulating environment for children. With a focus on building strong, positive relationships, we go out of our way to see your child feel valued and supported every day.
Safety is our top priority and we look after our centres. They're intentionally designed to make the best use of our early learning resources and our settings are enriching and engaging. From spacious outdoor play areas to well-appointed learning spaces, we'll have many things that meet your child's interests and individual needs. 
If your child attends childcare with us, they can stay with us until they start school. At Goodstart Hawthorne, we offer a government-assessed and approved kindergarten program. This curriculum is designed as a part of the Australian government's early years learning framework and it's delivered by bachelor-qualified early childhood teachers. This early education program applies across the country with school readiness in mind.
At Goodstart, we believe all children deserve the best possible start in life, and that includes access to high-quality early childhood education and care. We offer:

Children need to feel safe and supported to learn and grow, so we promote key educator relationships between our educators and children. Your child will have at least one key educator who takes them under their wing and really gets to know them. We keep families informed with regular updates on their child's progress and we welcome family involvement in our centre events and activities.

So friendly, welcoming and caring. The staff are all so kind and gentle with my child, especially upon drop off when she is sometimes upset. They are always happy to talk about her progress/routine etc and are very supportive. The centre is clean and has great facilities. My child loves the chickens, worms and veggie gardens - it's great that they can spend time outside and learn about the environment, veggies and animals.

My daughter has been attending Goodstart Hawthorne since she was 15 months old (now 22 months) and we love it. The director (Kate) & educators have all been so approachable, caring and supportive of my daughter and the other little ones. The environment is lovely and clean with decent indoor & outdoor areas (with chickens and a veggie patch!). The daily programme follows the same structure however activities are varied which is great for curious little learners & adventurers alike. Highly recommend!

I am so grateful that we found Hawthorne Goodstart. Kate is the director and her team of professional and talented educators have been a great fit for our 2.5y.o daughter who is does 4-days a week in Senior Toddler. We moved to Brisbane from Sydney almost a year ago and I applied to several childcares in advance. Hawthorne Goodstart stood out as the best value for money - professional, hard-working, friendly, safe, good humour, and down-to-earth culture. I get the sense that there is something special about this particular goodstart centre. I hear stories about other Goodstarts in Brisbane that sound nothing like the high quality of care we get with Kate and her staff. The renovated chapel gives a warm homely feel and there is plenty of space indoors and outdoors as well as chickens. The educators know their stuff from the detailed posts on Story Park about their observations of your child and how they are tailoring your childs learning programs. The staff are very polite and appear to love their jobs which is a sign of good organisational culture. The other parents are also very kind and sociable with the odd get-togethers throughout the year. Highly recommend having a tour.

Kate Walburn

Centre Director

Hi my name is Kate Walburn and I am the Centre Director here at Goodstart Hawthorne. I hold a Diploma in Early Childhood Education, Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Advanced Diploma in Business Management. I am passionate in Trauma informed practise for both children and adults and have recently completed a certificate in this area. I have worked in the Early Childhood sector for over 15 years starting as an Educator and moving up through to Director which gives me a great understanding of the industry.

My passion for giving all children the best possible start in life is what originally drew me to Goodstart and at Hawthorne our vision is to change the world one heart and mind at a time. Our three main focusses as a centre are; Reconciliation and inclusion, Sustainability and getting ready for school.
