A blended learning approach to embed an innovative practice guide has resulted in Goodstart Early Learning being highly commended at the Australian Institute of Training and Development 2016 Excellence Awards.
The Goodstart Practice Guide was developed to ensure children have the learning, development and wellbeing outcomes they need for school and life.
The first of its kind across the childcare sector, it helps the organisation’s 13,400 educators deliver, translate and implement the Early Years Learning Framework in a consistent manner.
Goodstart Early Learning national learning and development manager Claire Marriott said recognition by the AITD for the way the Practice Guide was embedded throughout the organisation was exciting.
“The Practice Guide has allowed centre-based teams to adopt practices in a way that is relevant to their local context, and matches learning opportunities to identified skill and knowledge gaps,” Ms Marriott said.
Goodstart Early Learning chief executive officer Julia Davison said the Practice Guide represented a milestone in the organisation’s quality journey.
“The Goodstart Practice Guide brings together insights from international early learning experts, the latest evidence of what works best for children and our own-on-the ground experience,” Ms Davison said.
With one in five children starting school in Australia developmentally vulnerable, it was essential to develop a way of delivering high quality early learning with a focus on our social inclusion strategy, Ms Davison said.
Ms Marriott said the award recognised the efforts of a large team which worked tirelessly to create, then embed The Goodstart Practice Guide.
“A 38-strong team of Early Learning Consultants supported the implementation of the Guide through multiple channels, including more than 130 workshops with educators,’’ Ms Marriott said.
“This award is also acknowledgment of the 13,400 educators at Goodstart who live the framework every day and bring the guide to life in every interaction they have with the children of almost 60,000 Australian families.’’
Goodstart Early Learning was up against some tough competition in the Best Implementation of a Blended Learning Solution category, including entries from Flight Centre, Westpac Banking Corporation and the Commonwealth Bank.
The winners were announced on Friday at the Australian Maritime Museum in Sydney.
