Children from Goodstart Early Learning Aspendale Gardens will join more than 9000 children from throughout Australia to take part in Muddy Puddle Walk, held from August 13-19.
Children are encouraged to plan a walk indoors or outside, hold a scavenger hunt, or explore the environment in an effort to raise money for the Save the Children fund.
Goodstart Aspendale Gardens centre director Judy Franzo said the event, which will be held at the centre on Thursday, gave the children the opportunity to get out in the fresh air, while raising money for a very worthwhile cause.
“As a nor-for-profit organisation, we are always keen to take part in fundraising events and in this case, we’ll be helping children who are most in need of care and support,” Ms Franzo said.
“It’s also a great opportunity for us to get out in the community and take part in an event that’s all about helping others.”
About 9000 children are expected to take part in the event, which is being held for the first time this year.
Parents, friends and other families make a donation to the individual’s or child care’s fundraising page. Most people ask for a donation, while others are being sponsored per puddle.
Save the Children’s Nikki Kerridge said a Muddy Puddle Walk was easy to take part in, and the perfect excuse to explore the outdoors with your little ones.
“We hope everyone will get outside this winter, come rain or shine, and help raise much needed funds for Save the Children,” Ms Kerridge said. “By jumping in muddy puddles like Peppa Pig and raising money for Save the Children you can help give disadvantaged children a brighter future.”

- Decide on a date between August 13 and 19, or pick another date that works for you.
- Share your fundraising page via muddypuddlewalk.com.au or on your Facebook page.
- Pick a safe route that’s not too difficult – about 800 m is ideal.
- Get parents along and spread the word that the walk is happening throughout the community via posters and invitation cards
- Plan fun activities on the day
