Goodstart stories

When international expert in child development Professor Jack Shonkoff visits Australia in March, it will be thanks to Child Australia, Telethon Kids Institute and Goodstart Early Learning.

The three organisations have teamed up to bring Prof Shonkoff to the 2017 Early Childhood Learning and Development Conference in Perth on March 30-April 1.

He will also speak during a practitioner session in Western Australia and meet with state government ministers, shadow ministers and heads of government agencies who work with families.

Prof Shonkoff will talk about strategies to improve outcomes for children and families experiencing vulnerability.

He is recognised as an international thought leader in research on brain development in the first five years of life and on how to enhance the wellbeing of children and families experiencing vulnerability.

Goodstart Early Learning’s capability and early learning strategy general manager Heather Finlayson will also speak at the conference.

She will share insights from the recent implementation of The Goodstart Practice Framework. The Practice Framework was designed by the organisation’s teachers to define Goodstart’s approach to professional learning. It helps guide and support educators in how to interact and support learning for children.

Heather’s session will be followed by a practical workshop with Goodstart’s National Manager of Professional Practice where they will be sharing and overview of the practice guide and ISTEP Framework and  insights into the role interactions play in supporting children’s learning outcomes.

“At Goodstart, we’re constantly challenging ourselves to improve the quality of pedagogical practices and we are proud to draw on the best available research evidence to ensure our teaching practices meet the individual needs and circumstances of each family,” Ms Finlayson said.

“This is all part of our goal to find more professionals to join our team so we can invest and help them grow in their profession so they can make a difference in ways that really matter for children. “
