More than 35,000 Australian families have taken up the opportunity to maximise their child care subsidy, thanks to Goodstart Early Learning’s new nine and 10 hour sessions.
Designed to offer families flexibility and help them make the most of the new Child Care Subsidy (CCS), the new sessions help families reduce the likelihood of running out of subsided eligible hours and paying full fees for the remaining hours.
More than 50 per cent of Goodstart’s 75,000 families have enrolled in either a nine or 10 hour session, with 48 per cent of families opting to remain on an all-day session.
Goodstart CCS program director Greg Scherf said many full-time families were benefiting by booking in 10 hour sessions which meant they were able to stay within their 100 eligible hours of subsidy per fortnight.
“At Goodstart we know that one size doesn’t fit all families, and not all families need 12 hours of care a day. “Our new 9 and 10 hour daily sessions, combined with the Child Care Subsidy will hopefully make early learning more accessible to more families” he said.
“The 9, 10 and ‘all day’ sessions mean families aren’t paying more for care that isn’t subsidised and they can choose the session that helps them to get the most out of the Child Care Subsidy.”
“As a not-for-profit children are the focus of everything we do and our teachers and educators all over Australia work hard every day to ensure that children attending our centres get the best possible start in life – no matter where they live or their family’s circumstances.”
Goodstart’s new daily sessions, combined with the Child Care Subsidy helps make early learning more accessible to more families to give more children a great start in life.

Across Goodstart’s 650 centres, centre directors have met with all 75,000 families to help prepare them for the Child Care Subsidy, which officially started on July 2.
“The Child Care Subsidy is a significant change to the former system so it has been our priority to support our families and help them understand what the new system means to them,” Mr Scherf said.
“This is why our centre directors sat down with every one of our families and looked at their individual circumstances, including their work hours and combined family incomes to help them make the most of the amount of subsidy they receive.”
