Supporting young women by helping them gain access to the workplace is the aim of Goodstart Early Learning’s Tara Davidson.
The centre director at Goodstart Coorparoo – Cavendish Road, Mrs Davidson has two students from Carlton Brown working at the service as part of their Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care.
Both students are required to do a minimum of 120 hours practical work, including on-the-job training and written assessment tasks which the centre director and senior educators monitor and assess
The students, Fatim Barry and Olivia Phillips, are both enjoying their time at the service and Mrs Davidson said she was happy to support the process.
“I find it so important to cater for students at this centre because it’s an opportunity for them to see first-hand how important the role is and the impact that we have on children and their families each and every day,” Mrs Davidson said.
“Being a student allows time to ask questions, watch, listen and learn before they are in a position within ratio.
“We are able to role model and make that first impression to demonstrate what true education and care is all about and help them put into practice all the things they learn in their face-to-face classes or from their text books.”
Ms Phillips said she had learned many important skills during her time with Goodstart Coorparoo – Cavendish Road.
“I’ve developed the understanding of how having patience with children is vital to our work in early learning, and that individual children need comfort and time to settle,” Ms Phillips said.
“It’s also beneficial in that it gives me the opportunity to spend time with educators which has developed my confidence and boosted my experience.”
