Sand sculpture artist brings art to Under 8’s Week beach event

From country to coast, inspiring learning in the early years through play is the theme of this years’ Under Eights’ Week, which will be celebrated across the country from May 20-27.

On Saturday May 20, Goodstart will host a unique event for all children in the community to enjoy on the main beach of Mooloolaba. A sand sculpting artist will build a giant sculpture with children invited to participate in its creation – whatever magical form it takes on the day.

Families are welcome to join in the celebrations as part of Under Eights’ Week between 10am and 2pm. Goodstart’s team will be located in front of the main deck on the beach under the Goodstart marquee.

Goodstart area manager Jo-Anne Reddy said they were looking forward to a great turnout, rain or shine.

“There are a few rain clouds on the radar, but that won’t stop us coming out to show our support for Under Eights’ Week. Our team is very excited to provide children with this rare opportunity to be involved in creating an impressive sand sculpture on the beach,” Ms Reddy said.

“The theme of this years’ event really resonates with Goodstart’s educators as we are so passionate about the benefits of play-based learning in the early years.

“Play-based learning allows children to explore new ideas and test their skills, thinking and knowledge through trial and error in a way that makes learning fun. It is crucial in building children’s social and thinking skills, language and independence,” she said.
