Fifteen boxes of gifts for children living in poverty are on their way overseas, thanks to the children and educators at Goodstart Hercules St Tamworth.
Part of Operation Christmas Child, developed by charity the Samaritan's Purse, the present collection involved fillling shoeboxes with gifts and paying $9 for delivery to countries including Samoa, Cambodia and Thailand.
Centre director Chloe Speck said the children had been asking what happened to others who didn't get presents because they didn't have any money. She said the educators helped the children to research what Christmas is like for others and how they could help those less fortunate than themselves.
Ms Speck said Operation Christmas Child was chosen by the children.
“We watched videos of children receiving gifts from Operation Christmas Child as well as videos of the conditions that children are exposed to, which was very insightful for some of our children.
"This sparked a lot of conversations within the group who all noticed how happy the children looked to be receiving their Christmas boxes,” Ms Speck said.
“As children have been bringing in their donated items they have shown their friends during news time and it is evident they are proud of what they are doing for other children around the world,” she said.
The Samaritan's Purse is planning to deliver 370,000 gift-filled shoeboxes to children in seven nations this year.
