Goodstart cook wins award

Awards and events

From the moment educators and families step into Goodstart Glenfield Park their mouths are watering.

It’s the beautiful aroma wafting from the kitchen where Rahul Bhagwat, who has won the 2018 Goodstart Centre Cook of the Year Goodie award, is working his magic.

Acting centre director, Nea Tate knows that parents are excited by the variety in Mr Bhagwat’s menu and that children are always willing to eat the nutritious options on offer.

“Rahul has extensive food knowledge and experience from cooking many different types of cuisine from all over the world.”

Mr Bhagwat's culturally diverse menu is cooked from scratch using locally sourced ingredients as well as produce the children have had an active role in growing and harvesting.

“The children show great delight when Rahul enters the room to deliver the meals or when he is tending to the garden.”

Erika Rose’s daughter attends Glenfield Park and, like other children at the centre, has a number of moderate and severe food allergies.

“Food at the best of times can be a worrying issue. Rahul has created a menu with an extensive range that my daughter loves. We thank Rahul for being so inclusive towards our daughter.”

Mr Bhagwat’s love of food has inspired educators at the centre to participate in the Munch and Move webinars and trainings.

He has initiated “Family First” meals at the centre where he prepares a meal and portions it out for families to take home to continue to forge strong family connections. He has also created a video tutorial with step by step recipe instructions shared on Facebook.

He regularly liaises with a community dietician and health promotion officer to seek feedback and ensure his menu is meeting guidelines.
