Child safety on the radar

Goodstart centres

More than 60 Goodstart Early Learning centres across Queensland are supporting the annual Day for Daniel this October 28 to raise awareness about child safety and protection, and to promote a safer community for children.

Junior kindy and kindergarten children will be at the heart of the activities which have been organised as Goodstart educators strive to spread the message that every child has the right to feel safe.

Here’s what some of our centres have planned on Day for Daniel.

Goodstart Morayfield
The centre is hosting bake-a-thon, with parents donating cake supplies so the children can make cupcakes and decorate them red. A police officer will be making a visit to the centre to talk about safety and children will also be releasing red balloons.

Goodstart Nambour – Doolan Street
Children and staff will be wearing red and taking part in a special walk-a-thon doing laps around the centre as part of their own ‘Walk for Daniel’. Children will also take part in activities where they will learn about how they can stay safe.

Goodstart Caboolture – Smiths Road
Children and staff will be wearing red for a gold coin donation and will have a special visit from their local police liaison officer who will talk to the children about safety. This will be followed by a range of art and craft activities and a special morning tea.

Goodstart Caloundra
Staff and children will be participating in a range of activities including wearing red for a gold coin donation, learning about staying safe and releasing red balloons.

Goodstart Little Mountain – Gumtree Pocket Court
Staff and children will be wearing red for a gold coin donation and will be releasing red balloons and participating in their own Walk for Daniel on the centres’ bike-track where children will receive a special certificate at the completion of their laps.

Goodstart Little Mountain – Mark Road West
Staff, children and families will be taking part in a special red-themed barbecue at their local park with a sausage sizzle and face painting.

Day for Daniel is a national day of action to raise awareness about child safety and protection. Parents, carers and guardians are asked to start a conversation about personal safety in the real world and in an online environment. For more information, visit the website
