Festival of flowers awakens artistic talent

Goodstart centres

Flowers of all colours and shapes were celebrated by the children at Goodstart Griffith - Coolah Street this week as the area gears up to host the annual Festival of the Gardens

The children visited the Regional Art Gallery last week, to explore the display and create their own artworks.

At the gallery, the children had great discussion about all the different media of art and were excited to draw their own flowers and rainbows.

To further their involvement with the Festival of the Gardens, the children will travel on the bus next week to visit the open gardens, and the following week, the children from preschool, toddler and nursery will walk to visit more than 70 large 3D sculptures made of citrus fruits.

Centre director Sarah Brownlie said the excursions would contribute to a larger project for the children later this year.

“These excursions will each include time for the children to paint, draw and take photos of flowers and sculptures, that will then contribute to our own art exhibition at Griffith Central Plaza in late November,” said Ms Brownlie.

“Parents will be invited to visit the art exhibition and will give the children a chance to share what they’ve been learning with their friends, family and the community,” she said.
