Queenslanders take up Triple P offer

Child development

Queensland parents will be provided with world-class parenting support if and when they need it, thanks to a commitment by Triple P’s Positive Parenting Program to train more Queensland program presenters.

Tens of thousands of Queensland parents have already benefitted from free parenting advice and counselling at Goodstart Early Learning centres, with a further 25 selected for additional training.

Goodstart Clayfield’s educational leader Preston Warner said when a child started early learning, it was a great time for parents to learn new tips and strategies to promote their children’s social and emotional development.

Ms Warner has been trained to offer Triple P seminars to parents and carers with children attending their
centre, as well as to the wider community.

“I’m really enjoying the process and getting ready to facilitate seminars,” Ms Warner said.

Educators from Goodstart took part in the two-day training session, which included learning the Triple P theory, and how to present it to parents.

“Family relationships have always been really important to me because children learn when they are in safe, secure environments,” Ms Warner said. “It’s always tricky when you’re trying to give advice to parents though because you don’t want to be too personal.

“I think Triple P gives you the confidence to help and support others because it has the theory behind it and is based upon research.”

More than 200 000 parents and carers have accessed some kind of free Triple P program in Queensland, ranging from seminar and small group programs to individual and online programs.

The seminars are 90-minute sessions that are focused on sharing practical tips and strategies. They include the most common issues parents face, including:
  • Temper tantrums
  • Self-esteem issues
  • Bedtime battles
  • Disobedience
  • Aggression
As a not-for-profit social enterprise, Goodstart Early Learning has a strong focus on improving the wellbeing outcomes for children and their families.
