Children's creative talents on display at inaugural art show
The beginnings of creative expression occur in the first year of life, and as they grow, children begin to experiment and use creative experiences as a way of expressing themselves.
Goodstart Aspley decided to give children at their centre the chance to fully embrace their natural creative expression, hosting a first-of-its kind student art show in their centre on Tuesday, July 12.
Featuring artwork from children of all ages from the nursery room through to kindergarten-aged children, the inaugural art show was a huge success.
Centre director Michelle Buchanan said they set no boundaries for the art pieces – it was an open theme, any materials and mediums could be used, and all children were encouraged to participate.
“We had 25 families attend the event which was a wonderful turnout for our first ever student art show. The centre was filled with colourful, interesting and inspiring art works and of course, our proud young artists,” Ms Buchanan said.
“At Goodstart, our educators value a child’s early creative expressions and we provide a wide variety of materials for children to experiment with in a safe environment. We are constantly amazed at the ways in which children express themselves and the art works they create on a daily basis.”
Through the generosity of families who made a donation for entry to the show, Goodstart Aspley raised $140 to support Cup from Above, a social enterprise cafe and drop-in crisis centre that exists to champion disadvantaged people in the community.
