A new sandpit, digging trail, vegetable garden, timber arbour and a fabulous teepee are all adding to the fun and excitement for children at Goodstart Algester.

The early learning centre has just received a major yard and playground upgrade as well as internal works as part of a $250,000 investment to improve the centre’s outdoor and indoor environments.

To celebrate the completion of the works, Goodstart Algester is holding an open day for all families in the community on Saturday September 24 from 10am – 12noon. There will be a range of fun activities to entertain children and adults young at heart, including a non-contact rugby league session for children delivered by one of the coaches from Billy’s Buddies.

Centre Director Jody O’Brien said the children were overjoyed with their new playground.

“Children are naturally drawn to active play outdoors, and now they have more reasons than ever to play, explore, learn and develop their skills in a wonderful new setting,” Mrs O’Brien said.

“I am particularly proud we have been able to create a dedicated outdoor play area just for babies. It means Goodstart Algester can offer the best nursery experience for infants with this beautiful new space.

“All learning, including physically active play which helps children to develop their motor-skills and social capabilities, is fuelled by the pleasure of play so the new playground will continue to benefit children of all ages on a daily basis. We are so excited to showcase and share our beautiful new centre environment with our families,” she said.

Landscaping, ground resurfacing, decking, natural sustainability elements and new play areas have all been incorporated as part of the outdoor upgrade. Internal works include new flooring throughout all rooms along with and internal and external paint and partial joinery replacement.

Goodstart Early Learning, a not-for-profit organisation, is committed to reinvesting its operating surplus in improved early learning resources, facilities and staff training. Goodstart Algester is one of the latest centres to benefit from a $27m investment into improving their centres in 2015-2016.

All families are invited to family fun day at the centres on September 24 – this is a free public event. The early learning centre caters for children aged 0-5 and is at 89 Ormskirk St.
