Goodstart Early Learning Kanahooka is situated within the safe and secure Forest Grove Estate in Kanahooka. The estate has a man made lake at its centre, swimming pool, play area and cafe, with a wonderful board walk around the lake, with many ducks, water birds and swans to enjoy.

Kanahooka is named after Kana (King) Hooka who was the Aboriginal Elder. Kana Hooka was head of the Five Islanders who were based near the Hooka Creek. This is now known as Berkley.

Kanahooka is situated 8km south of Wollongong's CBD. It is located on the western shores of Lake Illawarra and is predominantly a residential area servicing a diverse population.

The centre has highly trained, experienced, qualified and dedicated staff that have had a long relationship with the centre and form a consistent, vibrant team. They work tirelessly to create a fun, secure and educationally stimulating environment that children participate in with enthusiasm.

The staff have been a part of the centre for many years. This helps to create a unique atmosphere filled with professional and personal friendships that flow into the staff's daily interactions with children and families.

Parents and family members are encouraged to participate in our fun dress up days, morning teas, and special occasions such as Graduation and Christmas parties.

Please come and visit our wonderful centre.
Katherine Herbert
My name is Katherine Herbert and I have been the proud Centre Director of Goodstart Early Learning Kanahooka since May 2005. I have guided the centre through Accreditation a number of times, most recently in 2008, with a high quality standard. I hold a Diploma of Children's Services and am currently studing my Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood) at university.

I strive to create a warm, safe, secure environment for families, children and staff. We create programs based on children's interests and abilities that are both challenging and fun, focusing on discovery and experimentation in a clean and well displayed room environment.

As Centre Director I recognise the importance of all children, educators, staff and families feeling comfortable in their surroundings, and endeavour to create meaningful relationships with all parties to achieve this. Working together as a team, we respect the diversity of all families and the uniqueness of each family unit.

I actively encourage the involvement of families and the community in sharing skills and time with the children at the centre.

I hope to assist each family to develop a sense of belonging and look forward to meeting you.
