Goodstart stories
Why people and social connections are the most important drivers of children’s learning
People are the curriculum. They are the environment, and they are the relationships that build children’s sense of safety and curiosity.
At Goodstart Box Hill Canterbury Road, our centre is dedicated to providing a nurturing and educational environment for children from birth weeks to school aged.
We offer long daycare and kindergarten programs and our play-based learning programs are designed to promote:
A child’s natural sense of enquiry
Literacy, numeracy and social skills
Creativity, problem solving and resilience
These are all critical skills needed for school and life. Quality play-based learning gives children hands-on exploration of the world around them.

We believe the quality of care, education, resources and educators is evident from the moment that you enter our doors. Our families often tell us how welcome they feel in our centre, and how excited they are to offer their children the opportunity to grow and learn as part of our play-based program.
Our Key educator relationships help children form secure attachments. Educators work closely with smaller groups and individual children to better understand each child. These relationships lead to improved outcomes for children as we foster more communication between families and educators.
Our purpose-built centre began operating with just four rooms back in the 1990's and was extended to include a further two rooms nearly eight years ago. Catering for children from birth to school age, we provide early education and Kindergarten to over two hundred families each week.
Outside, we have age-appropriate play spaces and equipment, all geared to enhance the children’s awareness of their surrounds and the greater environment, as well as their understanding of the importance of sustainability. We have three play areas with sandpits, veggie patches, cubbyhouse, fort, undercover deck and lots of shade and space to run!
We have a qualified cook who cooks fresh, healthy and nutritious meals for the children each day. The centre provides all meals during the day, including breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and a late snack.
Yes we offer a state approved funded kindergarten program.
At Goodstart, we believe all children deserve the best possible start in life, and that includes access to high-quality early childhood education and care.
We offer:
Discounts on multiple days
All day sessions
Discounts on combined Before School and After School Care (applicable centres only)

Families in our area comprise of many cultures and economic positions. Our centre works with other services in the region to meet the diverse needs of all families, and support children to find their own identity within their community. Through everyday conversations, our parent notice boards, pockets, information nights and e-mail communication, we share information about opportunities for support, resources and activities and networking.
Our Storypark platform, as well as regular family nights and emailed newsletters, enable us to stay in close contact with parents and families, ensuring open and clear communication. With extensive experience as a Teacher, Senior Teacher, and in leadership roles including 2IC and Assistant Director, I lead with a focus on reflective practice, continuous improvement, and professional growth. My leadership approach supports a shared vision where educators feel empowered to contribute, learn, and grow together in a positive and inclusive environment.
I am deeply committed to creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging space where children feel respected, valued, and supported to thrive. I strongly believe in building meaningful relationships and partnerships with families and the wider community, recognising that these connections are essential to supporting children’s learning and wellbeing.
Through a play-based and inquiry-led approach, I support educators in creating meaningful learning experiences that build on children’s interests, strengths, and cultural backgrounds. My passion for safeguarding children and fostering a sense of belonging underpins my vision of developing confident, capable learners who feel connected to their world.
I continue to advocate for children, families, and educators, leading positive change and ensuring the centre remains a welcoming and high-quality learning environment for all.
