My name is Shelley and I am the Centre Director at Goodstart Beachmere. I have been working in the childcare sector for over 10 years, I hold a Diploma in Children’s Services. I started from a float position and have worked my way up to Centre Director.
I believe all children have rights no matter who they are, where they live, what their religion is, whether they are a boy or girl, what their culture is, whether they have a disability, whether they are rich or poor. No child should be treated unfairly on any basis, also all children have the right to give their opinion and for adults to listen and take them seriously.
I believe in Bowlby’s theory when familiar caregivers respond warmly and consistently to young children they form strong positive emotional bonds (attachments). This is important for healthy emotional and social development. Children who have strong positive attachments to familiar caregivers use them as a safe base from which to explore the environment.
I believe that The Early Years Learning Framework has a strong emphasis on play-based learning. The framework also recognises the importance of communication and language (including early literacy and numeracy) and social and emotional development.
