Children at Goodstart Early Learning Tapping are learning about the importance of volunteering thanks to a visit from a local surf lifesaver.
They recently took part in Boardies Day, after a family member at the centre who is a surf lifesaver approached the educators to help raise funds for the local surf lifesaving club.
Goodstart Tapping Assistant Director Claire Stannard said, Boardies Day was a fun way for the children to learn about the importance of volunteer surf lifesavers, while raising funds for a great cause.
“As the early learning centre is only round the corner from the beach and a popular destination for many families, we thought this was a perfect opportunity to teach the children some valuable life lessons,” Ms Stannard said.
Children were encouraged to participate in Boardies Day by wearing red and yellow clothing or their boardies to the centre.
“Throughout the day, we had lots of different beach experiences including sand and water play, beach balls and umbrellas, and beach picnics with red and yellow coloured food,” Ms Stannard said.
“We also had group discussions about beach safety especially recognising the importance of lifesavers who spend each summer keeping our beaches safe,” she said.
“We were lucky enough to have lots of families who got behind this great cause and helped raise funds for our local lifesavers. The funds will go towards vital training and equipment so our lifesavers can continue to keep our beaches safe.”
