Little hands help build garden at Goodstart Bentleigh East

Young children love getting their hands dirty, and now thanks to their local Bunnings, children will have the chance to learn all about how to grow their own food at their kindergarten.

Goodstart Bentleigh East – McKinnon Road has arranged for Bunnings Moorabbin to visit their early learning centre on August 25 to talk to the kindergarten and pre-kindergarten children about gardening and growing vegetables.

Centre director Lisa-Nicole Anderson said children would also have the opportunity to plant vegetable seedlings in new planter boxes in the kinder yard.

“We are very excited to start growing our own food in the centre and hopefully we’ll soon have some delicious new vegetables to enjoy creating healthy recipes for children to enjoy,” Mrs Anderson said.

“Children benefit from play-based learning and sensory experiences so getting them involved in planting a vegetable garden is a great hands-on activity to engage their minds and increase their engagement with the natural environment,” she said.

Goodstart is committed to embedding sustainability practices into their centres to enhance the overall experience and learning outcomes for all children.
