About Goodstart Turner
Goodstart Early Learning Centre Turner is located in a quiet leafy street close to Canberra city centre, schools, shops and community services as well as transport routes. Our centre is licensed for 65 children and we provide all meals and a nappy service for our nursery and toddler children. We have a team of 14 educators of different cultural backgrounds with a variety of age groups and early education/school/family experience. We received a rating of exceeding in all areas of the National Quality Standards in November 2017. We pride ourselves on this rating and always endeavor to provide the best possible service for our families, children and wider community.
Our play based, stimulating curriculum is based on the Early Years’ Learning Framework and our rooms – from Nursery to Kindergarten / Preschool – are all geared with this in mind. We also develop engaging programs adapting for each child’s individual interests, needs and strengths; and with each step we are ensuring children are ready to take the big step into schooling.
Our children are exposed to new and exciting learning opportunities that will take them through their adult lives including sustainability practices, science and investigation, mathematical problems, exploring creativity and social interactions. Children’s learning, including photos, videos & stories are uploaded onto Storypark; an online program that connects services with families. Parents receive notification when their child is mentioned in a story and can comment for further extension on the program. Families can also upload stories from home for educators to explore new interests.
Our centre offers key educator approach (KEA), which allows children one primary carer to support their individual needs, including feeding, toileting, rest/sleep and planning for learning. This relationship gives you one less thing to worry about on your endeavour to work/study. Our centre supports breast feeding, and if able, supporting families to continue this bond with their child. We encourage families to spend as much time as they need at the centre, either in the room with their child or in our foyer. We also encourage parents to call to see how their child is going throughout the day.
With only 3 rooms within the centre, children are able to experience less disruptions, transitioning rooms and spending more quality time with their primary care giver. Our rooms also allow siblings to spend time together, settling into the care environment with a familiar face. Our welcome spaces support children and families to arrive to the centre to a space they can feel safe and commence their day with confidence.
We pride ourselves on family connections, and we love celebrating with our families and children. Throughout the year, we host morning and afternoon teas for our parents & extended family to come and celebrate with their children. We also hold many incursions at the centre including, puppet shows, tooth fairy, petting zoos, music shows, multicultural shows and anything our children show an interest in.
Outside, we have age appropriate play spaces and equipment, all arranged to enhance the children’s awareness of their surrounds and the greater environment, as well as their understanding of the importance of sustainability. We encourage imaginative play through open ended resources to allow personalities to flourish and relationships to build. Our two spaces have sandpits, water features, teepees, a bridge, stage, mud kitchen, dry creek bed, veggie patch and generous shade through well-established trees.
We welcome you to come and have a look at our beautiful centre and explore how we can support you and your family.
