About our centre

Goodstart Early Learning Child Care Centre Kambah is located a short stroll away from Lake Tuggeranong and a local park. The Kambah professional centre is nearby and offers an array of community services including a doctor’s surgery and dental clinic. We are privileged to have beautiful views of the Brindabella Mountains from our Preschool room.

We cater for children aged from six weeks to five years. Families and educators at our centre come from a diverse range of cultural backgrounds, and we celebrate the learning opportunities this offers.

Our educators have been with the centre for an extended time period, and rotate rooms each year to continue developing their skills across different age ranges. We have team members from Aboriginal, Sri-Lankan, Lebanese, Polish, Indian, Italian, and Australian backgrounds.

Our play based, stimulating curriculum is based on the Early Years’ Learning Framework and our rooms – from Nursery to Kindergarten / Preschool – are all geared with this in mind.

Our preferred method of communication with families is quality face-to-face conversations. We also offer written information in family pockets including newsletters, invitations to centre events, and statements, and a daily learning journal for each child. Every room contains a parent information area displaying the daily and weekly curriculum for that room, and daily routine record sheets for the children.

Our intuitive Storypark platform, also enables us to maintain consistent and clear communications with families. That means we are better placed to support a child in their learning journey, ensure parents have peace of mind, and time stamp the children’s developments, milestones and achievements.

The centre has three large playground areas containing garden beds designed and created in consultation with the children. We also have an art studio for children and families alike to enjoy, and an Indigenous Perspectives corner to teach the children more about the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

We also have a qualified cook who cooks fresh, healthy and nutritious meals for the children each day. The centre provides all meals during the day, including breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and a late snack.

Being a part of our surrounding community is an important aspect of our service. We make monthly donations of unwanted goods to the local op shop, and hold fundraisers for Jeans for Genes day, Red Nose Day, and numerous other charities throughout the year.

We would welcome the opportunity to meet you and your family and explore how we can support you on this early learning adventure.

Shannon Maguire

Centre Director

Welcome to Goodstart Kambah my name is Shannon Maguire and I am the Centre Director.

My early childhood educator journey began in 1998, where I started in supporting roles before moving on to becoming a room leader and Early Childhood Teacher. I have been part of centre management teams for the past 15 years in roles of assistant director, Educational Leader and Centre Director. While I was working, I was studying at university, working towards my degree in teaching, where I graduated with my Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood Teaching birth to 8years) in 2012. Studying further in the profession I love, has given me the opportunity to build on my knowledge, share this with others and build strong relationships with children, families and fellow educators.

I joined the Goodstart Early learning Kambah team in November 2022 and enjoying everyday since. I am very familiar with Kambah area and community, where  I myself grew up in this area and attended school close by. My experience of growing up in this area means I can share my childhood memories with the children- Looking out the windows or being out on walks, I hope to create memories for the children like the memories of my childhood I share with them.

Working with children and becoming a teacher has been my passion goal since a very early age and I could not imagine being anything else. The best part of working in Early Childhood is that everyday is different and so rewarding! Watching children grow and learn, achieve new goals, build meaningful relationships and just have fun as they explore the world around them is amazing and precious.

I am passionate in creating a nurturing learning environment for children to explore and investigate at their own pace. My goal is to embed Indigenous Culture and learning into our spaces, where children have opportunities to engage in learning which is respectful to the Ngunnawal people.
