Educator looks forward to continuing studies
Making learning fun, adventurous and meaningful is the aim of Goodstart Early Learning eductor Kathleen Ryan who has been awarded a teaching scholarship from the NSW Department of Education.
My Ryan, from Goodstart Bathurst, said she would upgrade her early learning qualitfication to a four-year bachelor degree with the $10,000 financial boost.
She said her love of teaching children developed from a young age.
“I have always been passionate about educating young children and began my career just under 10 years ago at the age of 18. I enjoy making learning fun, adventurous and meaningful for the children in my care and watching them grow and learn.”
Ms Ryan's older sister played a key role in her decision to apply for the scholarship to start her Bachelor’s degree.
“I have come to a point in my career where I would like to gain more knowledge and give that to the children and to my centre. My older sister recently graduated after completing her degree and her passion was so inspiring and contributed to my decision to apply," she said.
Centre director Emma Kentwell (pictured below, right, with Kathleen, middle, and Member for Bathurst Paul Toole, left) said Ms Ryan had great potential.
“As her director and a team mate, I have mentored Kathleen since she started at Goodstart Bathurst a little under 10 years ago. She has always been dedicated to the many children’s lives she has been a part of during that time," Ms Kentwell said
"She has many strong points including her project work that brings alive the children’s voices and interests, and her ability to ensure the environments she creates are alive with learning."
Goodstart Early Learning Deniliquin educator Danielle Murphy has also been awarded with a scholarship and will use it to undertake a four-year Bachelor of Early Childhood Education.
Ms Murphy said the scholarship would take a lot of financial pressure off and allow her to continue on with her studies.
The next round of scholarships will be open in April, 2017 for the 2018 academic year. For more information, visit the website: http://www.dec.nsw.gov.au/what-we-offer/regulation-and-accreditation/early-childhood-education-care/scholarships/rural-and-remote-scholarships
