Goodstart has today instructed all of its centres to check for and remove any coloured sand products.
Centre teams have received advice on how to do this safely while we seek additional expert advice on next steps.
The ACCC says it has ordered the recall as a ‘precautionary measure’ after they found traces of a naturally occurring asbestos (tremolite asbestos) in some rocks, sediments and soils throughout Australia and the rest of the world.
Reassuringly, the ACCC deputy chair Catriona Lowe that while asbestos is a problem if it is inhaled, “There isn't an indication that that is what we're dealing with here. However, it is an evolving situation and in an abundance of caution, the recall has been issued."
We understand the products involved are sold through a variety of merchants and urge all parents to also check their homes for the products and follow the advice on how to safely remove them.
