Kindergarten and preschool programs designed for your 3–5-year-old

Give your child the best start in school and beyond with learning underpinned by quality frameworks.

Early learning

Article by Deni Kirkova

Between ages three and five, your child will acquire the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that help them spring into school with confidence and curiosity. This is what we nurture through Goodstart preschool and kindergarten.

To give your child the best start, we work with you – their parent or caregiver – to set high aspirations and expectations for their learning and plan programs that support and guide them to be the best they can be.

Quality early learning is identified as the key foundation for young children’s development as they take the big step into primary school and grow into capable citizens of the world.

Your child's experience at Goodstart will be guided by quality programs underpinned by our outstanding Three to Five Outcomes Framework.

The Goodstart way: Three to Five Outcomes Framework

Your child deserves evidence-based learning experiences that support them to thrive in their transition to big school.

That’s why at Goodstart, our preschool and kindergarten programs are based on the national Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and guided by our elite, evidence informed Three to Five Outcomes Framework.

Our educators are attuned to developmental stages, adaptive in their teaching, and responsive to individual needs, with a view to support your child to thrive physically, socially, emotionally, and cognitively – in their knowledge, thinking and understanding.

Your child may surprise and delight our educators, challenge thinking, and shape how we teach.

So, when you enrol them at your local Goodstart, we’ll build meaningful relationships and collaborate with you to tailor our approach and create supportive, enabling environments.

All preschool and kindergarten programs in Australia, including those at every Goodstart centre, follow the EYLF.

At Goodstart, we’ve strengthened this with our Three to Five Outcomes Framework, developed with in-house PhD researchers and early childhood experts. It translates the latest research into practical, evidence-based teaching for children aged three to five.

Because children under three have different learning needs, we also have a dedicated Birth to Three Practice Framework. Together, these frameworks ensure every child receives age-appropriate, high-quality learning at every stage.

We respect, celebrate and embrace each child and their cultural background, and ensure inclusion for all childrenWe respect, celebrate and embrace each child and their cultural background, and ensure inclusion for all children

All Goodstart preschool and kindergarten programs are delivered by qualified early childhood teachers (bachelor’s degree or higher) and are tailored to each child’s strengths, interests, and goals.

We nurture personalities, talents, and abilities, while focusing on school readiness and essential life skills, including social-emotional development. For example, encouraging your child to name emotions and supporting them to self-regulate.

Seven areas of learning

We’ll support your child to develop the knowledge, understanding, and skills they need in:

  • Personal, social, and emotional development
  • Communication, language, and literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Science and our world
  • Technology and design
  • Physical health and self-care, and
  • Creative arts.

Enabling and inclusive environments

We create intentional, inclusive, and well-organised environments that spark curiosity, independence, and active learning.

Our clear learning areas, accessible resources, and indoor–outdoor spaces inspire exploration, support holistic development, and empower children to make choices, extend ideas, and take ownership of their learning every day.

How your child’s experience will be special

Early learning is the perfect time for your child to imagine, explore, problem-solve, and make sense of the world and their place in it.

Our teams create culturally inclusive environments guided by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, which states that every child has the right to develop their personality, talents, and abilities – regardless of ethnicity, culture, religion, home language, family circumstances, learning difficulties, disability, or gender.

We respect, celebrate and embrace each child and their cultural background, and ensure inclusion for all children. To support this work, every centre implements our Inclusive Teaching, Learning, and Support guide.

The Goodstart Commitment to children and families

At Goodstart, we commit to delivering our Frameworks so all children, with their unique needs in mind, are equipped to transition to school as confident, competent, and curious learnersAt Goodstart, we commit to delivering our Frameworks so all children, with their unique needs in mind, are equipped to transition to school as confident, competent, and curious learners

We commit to delivering our Birth to Three Practice Framework and Three to Five Outcomes Framework so all children, with their unique needs in mind, are equipped to transition to school as confident, competent, and curious learners.

For example, children may learn to:

  • Identify and write their name
  • Count to 10
  • Make friends
  • Ask for help

Three days of preschool and kindergarten helps children thrive

A major study from the Queensland Brain Institute of more than 250,000 children found that attending early learning three days a week gives children the strongest start to school.

The results are clear: three days a week is optimal for learning, confidence, and school readiness. Children:

  • attending three days had the strongest language, thinking, and early literacy skills – linked to later NAPLAN success – and stronger social-emotional wellbeing
  • attending one day were more likely to struggle with communication and early learning
  • who didn’t attend at all had the highest developmental vulnerability
  • in high-quality services showed stronger development overall.

What this means for your child

Three days gives children enough time to build friendships, feel secure in routines, and engage in deeper play and learning. It supports language, communication, problem-solving, and confidence – all essential for a smooth transition to school.

At Goodstart, our high-quality educators and play-based, evidence-informed curriculum ensure every child benefits from this optimal attendance pattern.

If you’re thinking about preschool or kindergarten for your child, a three-day program is a great place to start.
