Celebrating excellence: Asuka Kirby named Goodstart Educator of the Year
Discover how the Senior Educator uses art and inclusion to inspire children in Toowoomba.
Goodstart Early Learning Child Care Centre Orange - Molong Road is close to a small neighbourhood shopping complex and offers on-site parking. Our centre has been operating since 2006.
The centre backs onto a local park, which we regularly visit to connect into our local community.
We cater for children aged from six weeks through to five years. We have a range of different cultures represented at our centre and are focused on embedding culture into our curriculum to build a broader understanding of diversity. We have engaged with Indigenous Cultural Adventures to build a stronger connection to Country and Aboriginal culture and history within our centre.
Our dedicated team of educators includes four Early Childhood Teachers. Our learning curriculum is designed around individual observations of the children, children’s voices on what they would like to learn and family goals – this allows us to interpret and plan accordingly to make sure each child is developing across all of the key learning areas.
Our play based, stimulating curriculum is based on the Early Years’ Learning Framework and our rooms – from Nursery to Kindergarten / Preschool – are all geared with this in mind. Our curriculum ensures each child’s individual interests and strengths are included. We offer a Preschool Transition room for the children moving to Primary School and our curriculum includes early literacy, early numeracy and STEM based learning opportunities.
Outside, our playground areas are a balance of natural and manmade elements and play surfaces – the children contribute to the care of our gardens and work with a range of loose parts to create new play spaces. There are vegetable patches including a bush tucker garden, worm farm, a frog pond (built by the children), dinosaur garden, butterfly garden and a fairy garden in addition to sand pits, climbing equipment, outdoor kitchen space, and art areas. We have carefully designed and planned spaces to encourage a stronger understanding of the environment and sustainability – while giving children the scope to explore, play and let their imaginations roam.
We value communication with our families and do so through a variety of methods, including quality face-to-face conversations and a fortnightly catch-up email sent each Friday. We also use out intuitive Storypark platform to stay in close contact with families and enable them to engage with their child’s development and our curriculum.
Our centre takes an active part in the community, participating in the ANZAC Day March and NAIDOC Week March each year, participating in fundraising events, holding centre events for our children and their families, regular incursions based on children’s interests, regular local excursions around our neighbourhood and being a valuable link to schools and specialist services such as speech pathology.
We provide all meals and nappies as part of our fee structure.
We look forward to meeting you and your family soon! Come in and meet the team, take a tour and see how we can work together to give your child the best possible start in life.

Working at Goodstart Early Learning Molong Road is an exciting and deeply rewarding experience. Our team is dedicated, passionate, and committed to creating a place where every child, family, and team member feels genuinely welcomed and valued. Together, we strive to build an exceptional learning environment that supports children to grow, explore, and thrive.
With 46 years of experience in the Early Childhood sector, I have had the privilege of working across a wide range of roles and witnessing many positive and transformative changes in our profession. I completed my Teaching Degree at the former Mitchell College of Advanced Education (now Charles Sturt University), followed by a Graduate Diploma in Child Development from the University of South Australia.
My passion lies in providing the highest quality early education and care for children. I believe wholeheartedly that strong, respectful relationships form the foundation of everything we do. One of the highlights of my career was participating in a study tour of early learning centres in Reggio Emilia, Italy. The philosophy and practices I observed there continue to inspire our work, particularly our commitment to honouring children’s voices, rights, and agency in their learning.
At Goodstart Molong Road, we are deeply committed to building strong community connections and creating culturally safe, inclusive spaces. This includes embedding authentic Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives throughout our centre and working closely with community to support the renewal and celebration of Wiradjuri language and culture.
I am proud to lead a team that places children at the heart of every decision, values diversity, and continually strives to create environments that reflect children’s interests while extending their learning in meaningful ways.
