About our centre

Goodstart Early Learning Child Care Centre South Nowra is a purpose built child care centre established in 2006, located close to the CBD, primary schools and high schools. We are situated close to public transport and we have a large off road centre car park with disability parking and access.

Providing quality care to children from six weeks old to to school age, we boast five teaching rooms and two large well equipped playgrounds that allow family grouping. We embrace a multicultural program supported by our local community Elders and multicultural groups.

Our qualified educators provide an environment that allows children to be themselves as they explore, create, investigate and problem solve. Our programs are individually tailored, helping children achieve developmental milestones and school readiness.

Inside, all of the rooms  - from Nursery to Kindergarten / Preschool - are all set up in line with an Early Years Learning Framework, with sensory and play based learning opportunities. Colourful, stimulating surrounds ensure the children have the chance to grow and develop through sensory, play-based learning; and we are focused on ensuring the children are ready to take that all important step up to school.

Our Storypark platform, as well as regular family nights and emailed newsletters, enable us to stay in close contact with parents and families, ensuring open and clear communication. This also means we can tailor each program to the child’s individual needs, interests and strengths – as well as the strong level of cultural diversity in our centre.

Outside, our playground areas are a balance of natural and manmade elements and play surfaces – with sandpits, bush rocks, grassed areas, verandahs, fruit trees, vege patches, worm farm, chicken coop, a boat and lots of shade. We have carefully designed and planned spaces to encourage a stronger understanding of the environment and sustainability – while giving children the scope to explore, play and let their imaginations roam.

All meals are prepared on site by our qualified cook who uses tasty, fresh and nutritional ingredients – just the thing to keep hungry tummies satisfied.

Community is also important to us and through visits to the centre and participation in events and activities throughout the year we are able to enrich the learning experience. Art and music experiences are provided on a daily basis which allow the children to freely express their creativity. We strive to involve families through sharing their talents with us, assisting us on excursions, having afternoon teas with us, and participating in our annual art exhibition.

We invite you to come and visit our centre to meet our team and to see for yourself our commitment to your child’s early learning journey.

Kim Downie

Centre Director

Hi, my name is Kim and I am the Centre Director and Nominated Supervisor at Goodstart South Nowra.

I hold a Bachelor of Teaching (Early Childhood) and I have 20 years experience in the Early Childhood sector. I am excited to begin my management journey with this team at Goodstart South Nowra after holding the position of Assistant Director for two years.

I'm an advocate for children’s learning and I feel the most rewarding part of my job is watching the children grow and develop through their early years. This is best achieved through Key Educator Relationships, which I’m proud to say is embedded in our centre. Connections and relationships are the core of everything we do at Goodstart South Nowra.

We are focused on building and developing our Curriculum to ensure all children and families feel a sense of belonging. Inclusion and support for all members of our “family” is important to us.

As Centre Director, I endeavour to support the educators to provide the children with a learning environment which will foster each child’s individual growth and development. I also look forward to guiding and mentoring the team in their professional Early Childhood careers.

I believe positive relationships with families will assist me in providing high quality education for all children and I strive to ensure the lines of communication are always open.

“Learning Outcomes are more likely to be achieved when early childhood educators work in partnerships with families” (Belonging, Being and Becoming – The Early Years Learning Framework).

We are very proud of our Centre and would love to “showcase” it to you, so my team and I welcome you to come in and have a look at the great learning which is occurring at Goodstart South Nowra.
