Family Handbook - Welcome To the Family | Goodstart

    Welcome to the Goodstart family

At Goodstart we understand that raising a child in today’s busy world is no easy task. We can help by supporting your child’s learning and wellbeing during these important early years.

Goodstart is a not-for-profit organisation that was founded by a partnership of four leading charities with a shared vision to ensure all of Australia’s children have access to the very best early learning and care. Today, in over 640 centres throughout the country, more than 13,000 Goodstart staff and over 60,000 families are making that vision a reality.

Becoming part of the Goodstart family has some significant advantages

    Long day-care plus early learning

Most Goodstart centres operate 12 hours a day, Monday to Friday, 52 weeks a year,  to offer the convenience and flexibility that busy families need today. Goodstart offers nationally-recognised early learning programs including accredited kindergarten  and preschool programs within this environment.

So from six weeks of age right through until they are ready to start school, your child will receive the nurturing, continuity of care and stimulation that’s so important to  their development, in surroundings where they feel happy and comfortable.

    Local connections, national network

At Goodstart, you and your family can enjoy all the benefits of belonging to a small, close-knit, local community, while accessing all the resources of a large national organisation at the same time.

Our centres work together, supporting each other and sharing best practice  and resources to enhance our knowledge and enrich your child’s early  learning experiences.

    Working together works best

Research shows that children learn most successfully when families and educators work together. So we want to get to know you and your family, and we want you to get to know us really well too.

We work closely with families to build positive and meaningful relationships to help us create a caring environment, where every child is valued, and their abilities, interests and routines are respected.

In the same way, there’s a real sense of community spirit in every local Goodstart centre, and our people build strong partnerships with local schools, organisations, charities and businesses.

The centre took the time to know my child for who he is and what he needed.

    Experienced, qualified educators

It’s important for you to know your child is in a caring environment with experienced educators and teachers. That’s why the people who work in our centres are not only qualified, but have a real love of children as well. Our educators and teachers are qualified in early childhood education and have considerable early learning experience. Our kindergarten and preschool teachers have university qualifications.

    High quality resources

All of our people have access to the best expertise, resources, infrastructure and support that a progressive national organisation like Goodstart can provide. This includes our own in-house Early Learning and Research department which gives each centre ready access to a network of highly respected and experienced early learning consultants. We also have area leadership, human resources, inclusion support, health and safety teams and our own Goodstart Institute of Early Learning – a registered training organisation delivering accredited programs and courses to ensure our staff have the very best qualifications, skills and knowledge.

We also have a Learning and Development team dedicated to our educators’ on-going professional development. These are just some of the ways that we ensure our educators and programs are always at the forefront of early childhood research and practice. It means you can be confident that your child’s early learning program will always receive the highest quality support.

We’re for children, not for profit

Goodstart is a not-for-profit social enterprise, so you can be sure the fees you pay are directly benefiting our children and their families. We are committed to re-investing any profits in improved resources, facilities and staff training to ensure our children and families have access to the best possible early learning experience.
