Goodstart Smithfield is centrally located within walking distance of Munno Para Shopping Centre, Smithfield Interchange and many other small businesses. We work to provide children and their families with a safe and nurturing environment while offering early-intervention strategies to assist children who might be at risk or disadvantaged.
Our Centre’s approach is an all-of-community one. Having previously been funded as an EChO Centre, we are working within the Enhancing Children’s Outcomes framework and have highly skilled Educators who have been trained in how to assist children with any additional, sensory or behavioural needs. Goodstart Early Learning Smithfield actively involves families, Educators and the wider community in shaping the learning environment through continuous reviews of our current practices and programs.
In 2023 our service was a finalist in the National HESTA Early Childhood Education and Care Awards under the category for Advancing Pedagogy and Practice, to reflect our ongoing commitment to inclusive practice and linking with services that support children’s health and development. In 2025, we have been acknowledged as an Inclusion Aware service through Gowrie SA, with recognition across all 5 Inclusion categories. This means we provide a service that reflects a diverse range of support systems in place for children and their families. We have embedded practices that continue to be recognised in our community and we pride ourselves in this.
We aim to create strong links between high quality care and inclusive early learning programs which are aligned with the Early Years Learning Framework. We offer stimulating and sensory-based learning opportunities in groups from Nursery through to Preschool. Our families can keep up to date with what we’re doing at our Centre through ‘StoryPark’ which is an interactive web app where we send you updates through the week of your child’s observations and learning. You can invite other family members to join your account so that they can keep in touch with what is happening in the centre too. Our Facebook page also operates as an educational resource, using up-to-date photos from the service to demonstrate the meaning behind the activities and experiences our Educators program each month.
The children at Goodstart Smithfield are offered breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and late snack, with a focus on healthy portion servings and a wide variety of options on offer. Lunch has three courses that accommodate any and all dietary and medical needs to support children who have allergies or intolerances. In addition to this, our cook prepares additional meals to take away for any families in need. This approach ensures both children and their parents are cared for while we maintain the highest quality food safety program. OzHarvest delivers bread and non-perishable items every week for families to take home as well.
