Goodstart centres

More than $37,000 has been raised by Goodstart Early Learning centres in Victoria for the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal, which helps deliver the best possible care to patients and their families.

Paul Ryan, VIC/TAS state manager, said the money raised, and all future funds, would be used by the hospital to buy a retinal camera for the ophthalmology department.

The camera, which is valued at $100,000, is used to check the health of the retina, or the interior surface at the back of the eye. The updated technology will allow for earlier diagnosis and improved management of life-threatening eye disease.

Goostart Epping  raised more than $2000 – the highest amount for any single centre.

“Christine and her team at Epping did an amazing job of raising the most money out of any other centre,” Mr Ryan said.

A state-wide pyjama day was held on March 1 with centre families and children donating $2 to the cause.

Mr Ryan presented the money at the Good Friday Appeal telethon on April 19. The appeal aims to bring all sectors of the community together to raise funds every year, culminating in a 15-hour telethon on Good Friday.

People can continue to donate at their centre.
