Excitement as Goodstart ANU opens

Goodstart centres

Excitement is in the air with the newest addition to the Goodstart family now open at the Australian National University campus.

Goodstart ANU is a purpose built, state of the art facility which caters for children from six weeks to five years of age, including a high quality preschool program.

The centre provides much-needed early learning and care for families of ANU staff, students and local residents and is conveniently located at the main entrance of the University.

Drop off and pick up zones are located right outside the centre’s doors, and to encourage walking and riding the centre also features bike and pram storage inside.

Children at the centre are well catered for with nutritious meals being served from the commercial grade kitchen on site, and when it’s time to play the naturally inspired learning spaces have direct access to two custom designed play areas – one for nursery aged children and one for two to five year olds – providing age-appropriate, play-based learning.

The centre has retained a natural look and feel, consistent with the landscaped ANU environment, and features rammed earth walls and environmentally friendly elements like low-E glass to minimise heat transfer, water tanks and water efficient gardens.

Rooms in the centre are light and airy with extensive glass panelling providing a stimulating aspect of the outdoor areas and the University’s playing fields. Trees that were removed for safety reasons have also had their trunks retained to add to the natural feel of the centre’s outdoor environment.

Centre Director Aaron Lane is passionate about providing high quality learning environments and curriculum.

“We are looking forward to developing a community of learners within the centre and ensuring children are seen as valued members of the ANU community by being given multiple opportunities for civic participation within the campus,” Mr Lane said.

Goodstart NSW State Manager Nicole Jones is excited at the opportunity to bring Goodstart’s high quality and evidence-based early learning curriculum to ANU.

"Goodstart focuses on becoming a part of every community in which we provide a service and being present on the campus of ANU, a leading university, provides a great opportunity to support children and families and connect with a wider learning community,’’ Ms Jones said.

“We have an experienced team and are ready to offer high quality early learning and care, with degree-qualified teachers, to the ANU community.”
