Exploring their world and community
It took 12 buses, four trains and two ferries to whisk the children at Goodstart Banksia Grove
out and about and around the city during their jam-packed two week holiday program.
Goodstart Banksia Grove Centre Director Lynne Scotland recently devised a holiday program for 20 three to five year olds which included an excursion a day for two weeks.
The children learned about public transport and experienced all modes- sometimes all three in one day!
Lynne said she was drawn to the idea of the children learning while they were out and about in their community.
“Our excursion program gave us the opportunity to help the children learn that they are not only part of their local community, but can also shape it in positive ways.”
Throughout the two week school holidays the children travelled to Perth landmarks including the Perth Zoo, Museum, Scitech Science Centre and Elizabeth Quay. They also went on nature walks, and had a sports day at the neighbouring school.
