You may have noticed that some of the photographs on our website mention that paid child actors are used and wondered about it… photography is an important tool in helping parents and carers understand more about high quality early learning and we know that families taking the big step of trusting us with their child find photography invaluable as it helps them understand what their child will experience each day while in our centre.
We’ve always carefully considered how we feature children in our marketing and promotional photography and for our latest campaign we’ve put some additional safety measures in place to ensure the child actors we’ve employed are happy and enjoying their time with us.
At each of the photo shoots we’ve ensured that we don’t just have the parents permission, we also actively engage with each child for the entire time to ensure they feel happy and safe and that they only take part if they wish to.
We do this by having a pedagogical expert on site for the day and having safety and safeguarding practices guide not just how the photos are taken, but also what they show children doing and experiencing.
Prior to a single photograph being taken our expert Teaching and Learning team reviewed all experiences, content and photo concepts to ensure they align with our pedagogical practices.
On the day, each child has a parent or guardian present, and if the child does not want to participate, they do not have to. The children are with us for a strictly limited time and we have a nurse in attendance to log their hours.
As an additional precaution all shoots were done in empty centres on weekends with only qualified Goodstart educators and teachers used in the photography and every member of the production crew held verified Blue Cards.
