Goodstart Making a Positive Difference

Goodstart stories

Goodstart is committed to lending support to communities in need year-round and always looks to respond in the best way we can in times of crisis like the recent Queensland and NSW floods.

Here are a few ways Goodstarters across the country have been throwing their support behind some very important causes this year for positive social impact.

Northern Rivers, NSW flood recovery

The February floods in NSW and QLD were devastating for so many, particularly for First Nations communities in the Northern Rivers region of NSW – the Bundjalung Nation.

To support, Goodstart and charity Good360 have partnered and connected with seven Aboriginal owned and run early learning centres and/or centres with high proportions of First Nations children to understand the impact sustained to their centre following the floods and their First Nations community – assisting over the medium to long term.

Key support delivered to date:

  • Ahead of CWA Coraki re-opening its centre in mid-May, Goodstart delivered a range of resources for the centre as well as their First Nations families and children from books to cot sheet sets and puzzles.

  • Goodstart held a bake sale at its Brisbane centre support office to raise funds for these communities. Our incredible Goodstarters raised more than $2370 which means more than $12,000 worth of impact because of the charity Good360 and its social impact.

  • Goodstart’s suppliers have responded to the call of support – with nappies and wipes being donated to the northern rivers region by Kimberly-Clark and a number of pallets of resources will be delivered by Modern Teaching Aid over coming months in line with centre needs.

Children’s Ground - Wear it Yellow Day

During our celebrations for National Reconciliation Week, Goodstarters all across the country rallied their support behind the First Nations organisation Children’s Ground by hosting a Wear it Yellow day.

More than 83 centres got behind this great cause and raised a grand total of $6075.

The amazing team over at Children’s Ground said, “Children’s Ground is honoured to be walking alongside Goodstart Early Learning. These children are the future decision makers in this country. If they can begin their Reconciliation journey, all Australians will prosper.” Thank you Goodstarters!

We are very excited to see how our relationship with this great organisation continues to grow.

Supporting the Early Learning Fund through workplace giving

June marked Workplace Giving Month and was the perfect time to reflect on the amazing impact our Goodstarters have had in supporting opportunities for children experiencing vulnerability.

Thanks to Goodstarters who workplace giving through Giving@Goodstart, and other corporate and philanthropic funding, up to 1150 children will be supported by the Early Learning Fund in 2022. More than $185K was raised through Goodstart’s workplace giving program last year and a further $110K raised from January to June so far this year! Because of Goodstarter generosity and other corporate and philanthropic support, the Early Learning Fund can continue to ensure no child misses out on vital early learning and care.

If your organisation is interested in donating to the Early Learning Fund, reach out to corpaffairs@goodstart.org.au.
