A STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) program will be a major focus of the new $3.7 million Goodstart Early Learning Baringa centre at the Sunshine Coast. The 132-place centre, part of Stockland’s Aura development at Baringa, will be run by Goodstart Early Learning and is due to open its doors in January 2019.

It will feature a 952sq m outdoor play space, eight activity rooms and plenty of on-site parking.

Goodstart Early Learning Queensland State Manager Lesley Jones said the organisation was excited to be able to offer high quality early learning services for more families on the Sunshine Coast.

“As a not-for-profit, children are the focus of everything we do and our teachers and educators all over Australia work very hard every day to ensure that children attending our centres get the best possible start in life,” Dr Jones said.

“That’s why we’re so excited about opening a new centre for families looking for high quality early learning on the Sunshine Coast.”

She said the focus on the STEM program would encourage children’s curiosity about the world around them, and prepare them for the years ahead.

“They will help children develop strong skills and values that are useful later in life, such as problem-solving, communication, creativity and curiosity, and assist children to explore critical thinking, design, construction and problem solving,” Dr Jones said.

The Goodstart Early Learning centre will be directly opposite the new Baringa Primary School, which also offers a STEM-focused curriculum.

Aura will bring more than 20,000 new houses across a 24sq km area, with 200km of cycle paths and a 700ha environmental protection zone. It will also feature two business parks.
