Joining the Goodstart Graduate Teacher Program earlier this year, she found this combination. Ms Yong is now a graduate teacher at Goodstart Reservoir, Victoria, and is helping children reach their full potential.
“Working for Goodstart means working for a company where I don't need to alter my personal philosophy as a teacher to please the company's values. Instead, they fall perfectly in line, allowing me to focus on the children and teach with confidence.”
“I chose a career in the early years, because I find the idea of play-based learning to be beautiful. It celebrates and preserves the immaturity of children in the first five years. The flexibility of the curriculum in early learning also considers all the child’s social, emotional, physical and intellectual needs.
“Plus, children are loads of fun with some interesting ideas!
“Being part of the graduate program has been a great experience so far. Not only does Goodstart give all children a good start, it gives graduate teachers a good start into their careers. The induction program, my mentor and teacher conference have provided me with insights beyond those which I have learned at tertiary level.”
When asked what’s her teaching superpower, Ms Yong said she enjoyed creating learning experiences that were closely integrated with play.
Goodstart's Graduate Program offers the best possible start to a teaching career.
Goodstart’s 18-month graduate program is designed to help graduates settle into their role, build their confidence and refine their teaching practice. It sits within the Teacher Professional Program and is underpinned by the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers.
Graduate teachers have access to:
- a comprehensive four-week induction program
- mentoring support from a dedicated teacher mentor to help graduates achieve proficient or full accreditation/registration (as per state based requirements)
- a range of professional learning opportunities including network meetings, workshops and events
- tools, resources and support from across the organisation
“At the culmination of the graduate program, teachers will have completed the requirements needed to achieve proficient or full teacher registration/accreditation,” Dr De Gioia said.
Teachers are offered above award pay rates at Goodstart, Australia’s largest early learning provider, and have dedicated programming time.
To be eligible for the program, teachers will need an NQF approved early childhood teaching qualification.
