We have recently elevated our approach, now called Thriving Teachers. It supports teachers at every stage of their career.

Careers and employment

Article by Deni Kirkova

Teachers are essential to Goodstart. They develop and deliver our quality early learning programs. Without them, we couldn't fulfil our purpose to serve Australia's children.

The job is enriching, rewarding, at times complex, challenging and always dynamic. So, we do everything we can to support our teachers through it all.

You may have heard of our approach before. Now, we're thrilled to introduce a new era for teachers at Goodstart: Thriving Teachers.

Our refreshed program helps all teachers flourish. It caters to all teachers, from graduate to early career and experienced.

Early childhood teacher careers

All teachers at Goodstart have access to Thriving Teachers. This supports them at every stage of their career. Teachers can tap into a wide selection of professional development opportunities including:

  • Workshops tailored to career stage
  • Small group professional online discussions (PODs), led by experienced teachers
  • Mentoring for registration and accreditation in your state or territory
  • Regular connections with peers in the same career stage
  • Access to webinars by international experts in early childhood via the Learning Hub

Goodstart teacher induction

When you join, you'll be welcomed into your centre with a special Teacher Induction.

Your centre team will support you to settle into your new role. Plus, you'll have a range of resources designed to ensure a confident start.

Help with registration or accreditation

Navigating accreditation and registration requirements can be tricky. So, we'll support you to become registered with a state-based Education board.

Our dedicated team mentor new teachers to transition from provisional to full registration. We'll tailor this support to suit each state and territory's requirements.

Ongoing professional development

Throughout the year, you'll get at least 16 hours for paid professional development. This is, again, tailored to specific career stages and goals. It will work just for you.

You'll also get regular opportunities to connect in with peers at the same career stage. Together, you can attend workshops, professional discussions, spotlight on practice series and seminars. These are led by experienced teachers and will build your confidence.

You'll have ongoing opportunities for personal and professional growth. This includes work with teacher communities across Australia. As you grow with us, you'll strengthen your teacher identity.

Advanced teachers

As the largest provider of early learning in Australia, we offer our teachers more.

Proficient teachers can engage in regular discussion with peers and leaders. You’ll be able to attend workshops suited to your expertise or elect to mentor new teachers.

Looking for career advancement and mobility? From secondments to further education, you'll have many opportunities for stretch and challenge.

Practice and inclusion support

If you're unsure of practice and inclusion best practice, help is always at hand. Goodstart teachers have unlimited access to the Practice and Inclusion Helpdesk.

Teachers can request support through a messaging service, a phone call or an email. Access help from coaches, Practice Partners and peers. Together, we're stronger.
