Why work at Goodstart

A job that changes lives. A place that works for you.

We’re a not-for-profit social enterprise. Our purpose is to improve the lives of Australia’s children and their families.

As Australia’s largest early learning and care provider, we have a responsibility and we're here to make a difference. We're driven to create life-changing experiences for children.

Every day, our Teachers and Educators put their passion into practice. We build deep connections with families, children and communities that last a lifetime.

We recognise the important role our people play in the lives of children. So, when you join Goodstart, we'll provide the support and opportunities you need to thrive.

Why work for us?

  • Everyone should feel empowered to be the best they can be. That starts with good working conditions, support and recognition.

So, we ask for regular feedback, listen to what our people need, and take action.

We’ve worked to add more benefits and better environments. That includes above-award wages, increased non-contact time and flexible work arrangements.

  • We support our people to develop a healthy work-life balance with:

    • Flexible shift options
    • Part-time and casual roles
    • Secondments to other centres and roles
    • Breastfeeding-at-work policy to support new mums returning to work
    • Two dedicated wellbeing days included in personal leave each year
    • Opportunities to work from home

Just ask Tammy, a Teacher from WA: “Goodstart has always accommodated my family’s needs. When my children were little, I was able to work split shifts. And if I ever need a day off, it’s not an issue. I know Goodstart considers my health and wellbeing as important as the children’s."

  • We offer generous and competitive pay. It's the simplest way to recognise the work and effort you put in:

    • Educators receive a wage that is 5% above the award.
    • We pay Teachers on par with state primary schools nationwide.
    • Centre Directors salaries are at least 10% above award.
  • At Goodstart, we look after our people with:

    • Six weeks paid parental leave
    • Annual uniform allowance
    • Generous childcare discounts up to 50%.
  • We are an equal opportunity employer. And we’re proud of our inclusive and diverse work environment.

We want you to be comfortable being yourself. So, we support individual growth and strong teams with different cultures and backgrounds.

Every team member, family and child is welcome at Goodstart. Here are some of the ways we create an inclusive and welcoming environment:

    • Actions from our far-reaching Reconciliation Action Plan of almost 20 years.
    • Our centres' inclusive practices support all children to participate in quality early learning.
    • Specialist training and support is available to help welcome more families to Goodstart. We provide any extra assistance they need.

To keep our people safe and well, we offer:

    • Wellbeing program support
    • Sector-leading safety policies and procedures
    • Free 24/7 independent counselling
    • Support from our dedicated national safety team
    • Safety resources and rapid distribution of protective equipment.
  • Access ongoing opportunities to develop your knowledge of leading practices, skills and experience.

We provide professional development days and training to put inclusive practices into place. This way, we support more children from diverse backgrounds or with higher needs.

Access opportunities to advance your career across 650 centres across Australia.

As an early learning professional, you can contribute to and learn from our national network of pedagogy and practice experts. This is led by our Head of Pedagogy and Practice.

Our interactive Learning Hub empowers you to upskill and set new benchmarks in early learning practices. Access live webinars and on demand professional development.

We’re here to help you grow your career.

    You will have access to:

    • Our Thrive program. It supports hundreds of Educators to study towards their Bachelor degrees.
    • Certificate and Diploma qualifications in Early Childhood Education and Care. That's through our partnerships with Registered Training Organisations.
    • Our Thriving Teachers program. The initiative supports Goodstart Teachers at all stages of their careers. Tap into a wide scope of professional development opportunities. Each is tailored to your needs so you can reach your potential.
We get two wellbeing days a year. So, if you need a day to recharge and look after your mental health, Goodstart is super understanding of that. You have that support, so you never feel overwhelmed.
