About Goodstart Kindergarten Undurba
We believe the kindergarten year is vitally important to young children. We pride ourselves in providing a safe, caring and inclusive learning environment that celebrates and promotes children’s passion for play and learning. We offer a play based program following the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guidelines designed by the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority. The program is taught by a university degree teacher with the support of a fully qualified educator.
Our kindergarten program operates over a 40-week calendar aligned with Queensland school terms and caters for children who are turning 4 before June 30th of the year before they start school. We have two kindergarten groups of up to 22 children. Both groups attend a 5-day fortnight. Our Group A runs every Monday and Tuesday and Group B runs every Thursday and Friday. Both groups alternate on the Wednesday to make up their 5-day fortnight.
We believe that children’s learning is best promoted in an environment that supports the collaboration of partnerships between the child, their teachers, their families and the wider community. We encourage families and community members to become active participants in our kindergarten community. We are a unique site that is based on the grounds of Undurba State School. We work very closely with the school to ensure the children have a fluid and smooth transition to prep. We are regular visitors to the school attending the library every week and other special events throughout the year including sports days, Under 8’s Day and Bookweek Celebrations. We are also very fortunate to have a wonderful relationship with Murrumba State Secondary College who support our kindergarten in a variety of different ways throughout the year by hosting celebration days and events for the service.
We respect and work with children’s unique interests and needs, viewing them as active participants and decision makers in their learning. We encourage and foster an inquiry based approach to learning - children's ideas, interests and questions are central to shaping our program and curriculum. Through open ended questioning and scaffolding the children are empowered to take risks, investigate, question, hypothesise, experiment, problem solve, explore and create through their play. I base my intentional teaching practices around the children’s interests and input from their families to introduce new topics or ask questions in which the children are able to investigate to further extend their learning. Our curriculum is based on a simultaneous indoor/outdoor program in which the children can choose the option to play inside or outside. This caters for each child’s individual needs and interests by giving them the opportunity to find a space where they feel they belong. As teachers, we look for opportunities to incorporate and embed aspects of the kindergarten curriculum content into the everyday learning experiences that develop from a child’s emerging interests. We also find opportunities to ‘plant a seed’ when an important aspect of learning and development has not been evident in the children’s interests. This is all part of our emergent play based curriculum that we provide at Undurba Kindergarten.

Janine Allman Centre Manager
My name is Janine Allman and I am the Centre Manager and the Early Childhood Teacher at Goodstart Kindergarten Undurba. I have a Bachelor of Early Childhood Education that I completed at the University of Southern Queensland in 2015. I also have a Bachelor of Social Science-Child and Family Studies, completed at Griffith University in 1998.
I joined our teaching team in 2016, where alongside my dedicated and caring staff, I support our kindergarten children during this exciting year of their development and learning as they prepare to transition to primary school. I am very privileged to be a part of a vibrant and caring kindergarten community that acknowledges the importance of early year’s education. I am extremely passionate about creating supportive and collaborative partnerships with our families, Undurba State School and the wider community.
I believe that the kindergarten year is vital in shaping children’s social, emotional physical and intellectual skills. I believe that play is the fundamental medium for children’s growth, development and learning. I also believe that it is vital to provide our kindergarten children with a stimulating and natural learning environment that encourages and promotes active well-being, exploration, experimentation, wonder, a sense of belonging and a life-long passion for learning. I have a keen interest in STEM based learning in the early years and supporting children’s literacy, language and communication skills.
At Undurba, we look forward to getting to know you and your child and we hope that you will enjoy being a part of our beautiful kindergarten community.
