About our centre

Goodstart Early Learning Child Care Centre Kallangur West - Duffield Road West is located ten minutes from the M1 and walking distance to Kallangur Train Station which makes it easy for families commuting to work in the city.

We strongly believe that early education and care is a time of increasing independence. As children grow and develop they become more able to do things for themselves. They learn to express themselves and to explore their world independently. We will ensure that each child is given the opportunities to develop confidence to explore and make sense of their surroundings. One of our key roles as an educator is to help children relate to others in a positive and collaborative ways. If we only focus on individualism ‘all about me’ then we may miss the concept. If we help children to recognise the value of thinking about themselves as well as others then they can begin to understand the responsibilities that go with being an individual and becoming a member of their environment. Independence contributes to the development of self-esteem, identity and wellbeing. When children have the opportunity to make choices, attempt tasks for themselves, and to take increasing responsibilities, their sense of themselves grows. Allowing the children to do something for themselves is a powerful sense of achievement and success. For children to reach these outcomes we need to provide them with opportunities to develop the confidence to explore their world, ask questions, to express ideas, to get things right, but also to understand that you can be wrong and learn from your mistakes. Open ended environments will allow children to choose whether they want to be indoors or outdoors, or whether they want to be alone or in company, encourage children to be aware of and take responsibility for their own preference of learning.

We feel that our centres variety of play grounds provide every child with age appropriate exploration and learning through play experiences. Our playgrounds are one of our favourite parts of the centre! We are very fortunate to have all this space that gives the children lots of room to get outside and gain confidence in physical skills such as climbing, running and group games. We provide warm and natural learning spaces and each room has a unique feel as the spaces are designed to reflect the personalities of each child that calls the space ‘home’.

Our Educators' base their programs around the children’s individual and collective interests to enable learning to occur at any given time. With age appropriate groupings there is a learning environments for every child from 6 weeks of age right through to school age. Each room hosts facilities for children to never feel like they are missing anything.

Each day holds beautiful moments from spontaneous ideas to planned outings the learning that occurs is shared with the centre community. Parents don’t feel like you will miss out either as we keep you updated in our storypark platform. We think of our service as our own little community and to ensure we regularly engage and connect with each community member we have regular family nights and email newsletters this enables us to stay in close contact ensuring open and clear communication.

As a long standing service in the community we see and value the input we receive from the wider community. We actively invite local community members into the centre and participation in events and activities throughout the year we are able to enrich the learning experience for all involved.

Come in and see for yourself how we can help give your child the tools and provide them with all the opportunities to become lifelong learners.

Heather Mumford

Centre Director

Hi, I am Heather the Centre Director at Kallangur West.

I have been in the industry for 15 years and been a Director for 3 of these. I enjoy spending time with my family camping and 4-wheel driving. I have a step daughter who is 12 and a son who is 2 years old.

At Kallangur West we provide a safe, secure and nurturing environment for you to be able to bring your children knowing they will be provided high quality care from dedicated Educators in our ‘home away from home’ environments.

I believe that every child deserves someone to delight in them. I am passionate about building relationships with families and children to better their outcomes through early learning. The biggest reward is seeing what the children achieve and develop over the years and knowing that you played a role in this. All children have a right to access early learning and it is very rewarding to be able to advocate for the families and children and support them to attend our centre.

They say it takes a village to raise a child, I love that I can be part of this village and make a difference in the lives of our little ones. I love when you walk through the shops and you see a child who you taught years ago, and the family still remembers you, this makes me realise how much of an impact we have had in their lives.
