Goodstart Gateshead
Goodstart Early Learning Child Care Centre Gateshead is located close to Lake Macquarie and Charlestown, in a residential area close to local shops, schools and public transport, as well as community facilities.
We offer a long daycare service that operates Monday to Friday between 7.00am and 6.00pm, with 86 places, and six rooms - Nursery, Toddlers, and Kindergarten / Preschool.

We provide children with morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea, as well as wipes and nappies.
Our rooms are all set up in line with an Early Years Learning Framework, with sensory and play based learning opportunities. Colourful, stimulating surrounds ensure the children have the chance to grow and develop through sensory, play-based learning.
Our Storypark platform, as well as regular family nights and emailed newsletters, enable us to stay in close contact with parents and families, ensuring open and clear communication. This also means we can tailor each program to the child’s individual needs, interests and strengths – as well as the strong level of cultural diversity in our centre.
Outside, we have three areas all with age appropriate play spaces and equipment. We have a number of playground elements from dry creek beds, to sandpits, gardens, a worm farm, vege and herb patches, a bridge, lots of shade and a balance of manmade and natural play surfaces.

Relationships with children are the foundation of our philosophy. Each child is assigned a ‘key educator’ who will make every effort to develop a secure relationship with them as quickly as possible. ‘Key educators’ are also responsible for possessing an in depth knowledge of each child’s routine, personality, interests, and development. They involve families in their decision making to achieve best outcomes for children.
Community is also important to us and through visits to the centre and participation in events and activities throughout the year we are able to enrich the learning experience. Art and music experiences are provided on a daily basis which allow the children to freely express their creativity.

Hi, I’m Karl, and I’m the Centre Director here at Goodstart Gateshead.
I’ve been working in the early childhood sector for many years and have been fortunate to lead and support wonderful teams across different services. My experience has taught me that every child deserves a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment where they can truly thrive, and that’s what drives everything I do.
I’m passionate about helping children develop confidence, curiosity, and kindness during their formative years. I see these early years as the foundation for a lifetime of learning, and I feel genuinely grateful to play a part in that journey alongside families and educators.
As a leader, I believe in creating a centre culture built on trust, teamwork, and open communication. I value relationships, with families, educators, and our community, and I make it a priority to ensure that everyone feels heard, supported, and respected. My door is always open, whether it’s for a chat, a concern, or simply to share a moment of a child’s success.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, getting outdoors with our 3 dogs Peaches, Sunny, and Bruno, playing golf, and doing a bit of gardening. These moments help me recharge and remind me of the importance of balance, something I also encourage in my team.
