Goodstart children enjoy new nature playground
The children at Goodstart Wynnum West Crawford Road
are enjoying their new state-of-the art playground which features climbing structures, a timber arbour and vegetable gardens.
The early learning centre has just received an indoor and outdoor upgrade as part of the $27m investment into improving Goodstart centres in 2015-2016.
To celebrate the new playground, the centre held a family fun day on Saturday 17 September 2016.
The event was attended by families and children from the local community, including Federal Member for Bonner, Ross Vasta MP, who officially opened the new playground.
The children enjoyed a jumping castle, petting zoo, games in the neighbouring field and of course a sausage sizzle. There was also a non-contact rugby league session for children delivered by one of the coaches from Billy’s Buddies
Centre director Gemma Green said the families and children were thrilled with their new playground.
“Our new playground gives children more opportunities to play, learn and explore,” Ms Green said.
“The design features more natural elements for children to make discoveries and interact with the natural environment. There’s tree stumps, logs, a new fort and slide, and a dry river bed to connect children back to nature, stimulate creativity and encourage development,” she said.
There’s also a vegetable and herb garden, to help the children learn how to tend to the crops, look after the soil and pick the vegetables.
“The children have already helped harvest the first batch of potatoes, which we used in our lunch menu,” Ms Green said.
“We’ve also created a beautiful secret garden for our younger children to explore.”
The centres indoor space was also transformed and includes an upgrade of cabinetry, new flooring and paint throughout all rooms, the removal of walls to open the space for children, and a new parent area.
