Goodstart celebrates grand opening of the Yelangi Playgroup

Goodstart centres

On Monday 24 July, the community will come together to celebrate the opening of Goodstart Bray Park's new Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Playgroup – the Yelangi Playgroup.

Goodstart Bray Park - Elmwood Drive is extending an open invitation to anyone in the community who would like to join the celebrations.

The opening event will include performances by Bray Park State Schools Ukulele Band and the Tullawong State High School Indigenous dancers. Children will also enjoy face painting, arts and crafts activities, stories and much more. The centre is also putting on a sausage sizzle and refreshments.

Centre director Gina Kerr said the event is proudly sponsored by respected local Elder, Aunty Honor Cleary, who has a special connection to the centre.

“We are humbled and proud to have established a playgroup for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families in our community with the blessing of Aunty Honor, who has devoted her life to caring for and educating children,” Ms Kerr said.

“Our new playgroup provides a safe, supportive and nurturing environment for Indigenous families in our community. Mums, dads, carers and their children aged under five years old are all welcome along once a fortnight and there is no cost to attend.

“Families can enjoy a chat over a cup of tea or coffee and get to know each other while children also get to make new friends. We encourage parents and carers to join in their child’s play and learning experiences as we recognise how important this connection and special time is.”

The Yelangi Playgroup grand opening will be held on Monday 24 July from 10am to 12 noon, at Goodstart Bray Park, 4 Elmwood Drive.

The Yelangi Playgroup will be held in the centre once a fortnight on Monday mornings from 10am to 12noon.
