About Goodstart Merriwa
Goodstart Merriwa is located off Marmion Avenue and is situated in a residential area on the expanding north coast, close to local schools and shops. We have a large car park providing ample parking for families and visitors to the Centre.
MERRIWA means a good place in the aboriginal Noongar tribe. We are respectful in acknowledging many cultures that make up our community, our team and our families. We believe in making community connections that support our families, this creates an awareness of support services available for our families and also builds a sense of community connection through shared centre information and events.
The team at Goodstart Merriwa are all long standing educators that have cared for many children at the centre seeing them grow from babies to Pre-primary attendees. Our team endeavour to engage children in quality learning and create learning plans that are reflective of both intentional teaching as well as children’s interests and families’ developmental goals for their children. Our centre has been accredited an Exceeding centre by the National Quality Standards.
Our play based, stimulating curriculum is based on the Early Years’ Learning Framework (EYLF)
and our rooms are all set up with this in mind. We also develop colourful, engaging programs accounting for each child’s individual interests, needs and strengths; and with each step we are ensuring the children are ready to take the big step into schooling.
Our centre was assessed by the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA)
and we received an overall rating of ‘Exceeding’. This process is a National Framework, which rates all Childcare Centres across Australia against the National Quality Standards.
We use Storypark which is a tool that enables us to maintain consistent and clear communication with families about their child’s learning journey and centre activities and events. Storypark helps us capture and share children's daily and weekly group learnings and activities through pictures, text and videos that are only accessible to our centre families.
Outside, our playground areas are a balance of natural and manmade elements and play surfaces. We have carefully designed and planned spaces to encourage a stronger understanding of the environment and sustainability – while giving children the scope to explore, play and let their imaginations roam.
At Goodstart our main focus is building relationships with children and our families through Key Educator approach. We do this through focusing on relationships where the key educator role is visible, deep relationships are the priority and carefully planned for. Educators work together as a team to reflect, consider and make informed relationship-based decisions before acting. Children sense that educators are truly present with them, educators know who they are and what they really need from educators, and they are individually responsive to the family.
We encourage families to provide regular feedback through our regular feedback surveys and Centre Newsletter. We like to maintain great relationships with our families through open, honest communication.
