About our centre

Our centre is located in the local community of Beresfield in Newcastle, conveniently located on Milton Street, not far from the Beresfield train station. We recognise that early childhood is a crucial time of development and we work with children and their families to ensure the best possible start in life. Our learning environments are nurturing and natural, where each child feels valued and safe to explore, create and communicate. We ensure flexibility and responsiveness to children’s interests, learning capabilities and styles, so they can become  confident learners.

We educate and care for children between six weeks and six years old across four indoor learning environments. We believe that children learn best when they are engaged in meaningful play experiences. Play allows children to explore ideas and concepts in a fun environment where they can learn individually and socially with peers and teachers.

Our curriculum has been developed and influenced by the Early Years Learning Framework, ensuring that the children at our centre receive the highest quality education. We take a play-based approach to teaching and believe that children play and learn most effectively in environments that are safe, interesting, challenging and fun, with natural resources that reflect the multicultural background of families at our centre and our wider community.

Our two amazing outdoor learning spaces, which include trees for climbing, creeks for splashing, and gardens for growing, were designed with the intention of making dedicated spaces for discovery, quiet reflection, and risky play. A connection to nature is so important for children. It not only helps develop their motor skills, coordination and spatial awareness, but also fosters an appreciation for our natural environment.

With a highly experienced team on board, Goodstart Beresfield offers your family high quality early learning and care.  All of our experienced educators hold formal qualifications, including Bachelor of Early Childhood Teaching degrees, Certificate III and Diplomas in Children’s Services. We are passionate about delivering a leading early learning curriculum in a welcoming and inspiring environment.  We aim to welcome and invite the community into the centre as regularly as possible, having annual incursions such as ‘Living Safely with Dogs’, ‘Pacific Smiles Dental’ visit and ‘Henny Penny Hatchings’.  Each of these incursions provide the children with learning opportunities and resources that foster their development and connect them to the wider world.

Our school readiness goals focus on supporting children to transition to school and we have close connections with our local schools such as Beresfield Public School, Tarro Public School, Woodberry Public School, Thornton Public School, Black Hill Public School and Millers Forest Public school. We also have a connection with our local catholic schools such as Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Primary School, and St Aloysius Catholic Primary School. Our school readiness program aims to teach the whole child in what is called a holistic approach, with a focus on independence, resilience and social/emotional wellbeing.  We want to send off happy, confident and kind learners who will thrive at school and be able to tackle and embrace all the new challenges.

We use Storypark to share your child's learning. This industry leading program lets you see the learning experiences of your child and allows you to interact with educators to enable real connections between what your child learns at Goodstart Beresfield and what happens at home.

Our centre was rated by ACECQA as Meeting the National Quality Standards in 2018.

Our car park is located right outside the centre’s doors for convenient drop offs and pick-ups.

Public Holidays: Closed (no charge if it falls on one of your booked days).

Alisha Pritchard

Centre Manager

Hello, my name is Alisha Pritchard and I am the Centre Director at Goodstart Beresfield.

I began my journey as an Early Childhood Professional in 2006 and joined Goodstart Early Learning in 2017. I have obtained my Bachelor of Teaching at the University of New England which has assisted me with my work practices in the diverse centers and positions I have worked in over the years.

I joined Goodstart Beresfield in 2021 and I feel so privileged to lead a highly qualified, experienced, and dedicated team that shares my vision of creating and maintaining rich and meaningful learning environments and embedding high quality practices that promotes lifelong learning for all individuals.

At the heart of my philosophy, I believe that forming strong and respectful relationships with all stakeholders is vital to providing the children with every opportunity to reach their full potential. I also believe in equity and inclusion and always strive to ensure that all children feel empowered to explore and learn in their own way and in their own time.

Please come into the centre or give us a call as we would love to meet you and your family to discuss how we can work in partnership to provide your child with the best possible early learning journey.
