About our centre

Our centre is located in the local community of Cooranbong on the Central Coast, conveniently located on the corner of Martinsville and Government Road, not far from Cooranbong Public School and Cooranbong Fire Brigade.

We educate and care for children between 12 months and six years old.  The learning environments at Goodstart Cooranbong are designed with a focus on play based learning, extending children’s risky play and facilitating children’s needs and interest.

Our toddler and pre-kindy (one room) learning space provides play based learning opportunities for children to discover, create and imagine.  Educators are attuned to the children’s needs, supporting, guiding and enabling them to build a strong sense of wellbeing. We collaborate with families and strive to ensure routine continuity such as sleep times, bottles/breast milk and rest requirements. We support and encourage families to attend our centre before enrolment starts so we can build a deeper understanding of their wants, needs and personalities.

Our preschool/kindergarten learning space is free flowing and offers open ended activities. We base our program and curriculum on children’s interests and encourage parent input to facilitate this. The preschool environment uses natural materials as much as possible, creating a home like atmosphere. We welcome families in the mornings with calm music and essential oils along with quiet areas for children to transition comfortably and confidently.  Throughout the day children are engaged and supported to participate in many experiences that involve literacy and numeracy in a play based way. We support, guide and encourage children’s social skills and competency, which is at the core of their readiness for school and effective transitions. We also have a strong partnership with the local primary school, Cooranbong Public, and take children on regular excursions.

In our outdoor area we have chickens and guinea pigs in an enclosure built by one of our parents. The children have the opportunity to observe the lifecycle of chickens in this environment on a regular basis. Our environments provide calm and collected areas, where children are in the outdoors space engaging with mud pits, sandpits, gardening and fire pits. We have an all-day indoor/outdoor program with the preschool room having their lunch, rest times and group times in the outdoors.  We strive to embed sustainability into all of our practices with a focus on interacting with and caring for our natural environment.

We believe children are natural inventors, designers and creators. We encourage the older children to climb trees, ladders, build castles with tyres or climb a rope use real tools and explore their curiosity. Educators scaffold all children’s learning and respect their levels of competency in risky play.

Our early learning educational programs cater to each individual child's stage of development.  Our curriculum is centred around the Early Years Learning Framework and is tailored to your child's unique strengths, needs and interests.

With a highly experienced team on board, Goodstart Cooranbong offers your family high quality early learning and care.  All of our experienced educators hold formal qualifications, including Bachelor of Early Childhood Teaching degrees, Certificate III and Diplomas in Children’s Services and are passionate about delivering a leading early learning curriculum in a welcoming and inspiring environment.

Our school readiness goals focus on supporting children to transition to school and we have close connections with local schools such as Cooranbong Public, Morisset Public, Bonnells Bay, Avondale, Dora Public, St John Vianney, Heritage College. Social competence is at the core of this readiness, we encourage self-help skills such as opening and closing lunch boxes, caring for their own belongings and being confident in their interactions with others. We hold a parent teacher evening once a year with these feeder schools where parents can join in a relaxed evening, gaining knowledge of when and how to prepare their child for this important transition.

We use Storypark to share your child's learning. This industry leading program lets you see the learning experiences of your child and allows you to interact with educators to enable real connections between what your child learns at Goodstart Cooranbong and what happens at home.

Public Holidays: Closed (no charge if it falls on one of your booked days).

Elisha Ford

Centre Manager

Hi there! My name is Elisha and I am the Centre Manager at Goodstart Early Learning Cooranbong.

I have been in the child care and early learning sectors since 1999 and I have a Diploma in Children's Services. I joined Goodstart through Mission Australia Early Learning in 2019 and started in my role as Centre Manager in 2010.

Management Philosophy

I firmly believe that the first five years are the most important, and can make a great difference in children’s lives. My team and I pride ourselves in creating an inviting and stimulating environment at our centre, and are committed to providing each child with the best possible start in life. Our service believes in fostering family and community connections and supporting families in their parenting journey. We allow children to build secure attachments with educators of their choice, being as flexible as we can when caring for all children.

Education Philosophy

All children are entitled to a good education, and I am passionate about making sure that is possible. Every child has a voice – a voice that should be heard, and we have a responsibility to make sure our children have access to the highest quality care.  We believe play based learning opportunities provide children with the opportunity to learn, as they discover, create, improve and imagine. We believe in the rights of each child and honour their ability to make decisions in matters which affect them. We treat each child equally, celebrating their diversity, culture and community while promoting inclusion and wellbeing. We support children with additional learning needs through collaborating with families and their extended professional community to ensure a consistent approach is maintained which enables each child to reach their full capacity and participate within the service’s educational program.

Team Statement

With years of experience and excellent qualifications, this is a team of dedicated and committed professionals who are here to provide high quality education and care for our children and families. We strive to become co-learners with children, families and our communities, valuing the richness of local knowledge of community members, elders and councils. We believe there are multiple ways of seeing and living which celebrates and honours diversity and respect for the varying cultures throughout our community.

I look forward to meeting you and your family.
