Goodstarter of the Year: Feny Belinda, the heart of Goodstart Melbourne
A national Goodies Award in 2025, recognising extraordinary community impact.
Goodstart Early Learning Torquay is a wonderful part of the Surf Coast district, located close to schools, shops, transport and the beach!
At our lovely little centre, we keep our numbers small to prioritise the connections we've built with our families and community. We're huge fans of outdoor learning and play; passing on respect and awareness of our natural world is one of our values. From nursery through to a funder kindergarten we offer stimulating and fun learning experiences through our Early Years Learning Framework curriculum.
Outdoor play and bush kinder:
Bush kinder is an outdoor education program recognised by ACEEQA. We love it because children learn while they do what comes naturally: run, jump, play in puddles, climb trees, jump off rocks and explore. It also teaches them various vital social and emotional skills like resilience, critical thinking, and how to assess risk safely. We also take bush walks whenever possible. There are so many amazing outdoor adventures and learning opportunities to be had!
Feeding growing bodies and curious minds
Our on-site chef takes great pride in preparing fresh food daily. From breakfast to a late snack, every meal is created and served with care and consideration of nutrition, allergies, and individual palates. Our menu is seasonal and rotates every four weeks.
Our children love to learn about sustainability and are active participants in our culinary creations. As we keep the space as natural as possible, the children engage in regular upkeep, from planting fruit, vegetables, herbs, and spices to disposing of waste correctly. We even have a worm farm!
It takes a village
Our educators actively seek input, guidance, and feedback from children, families, and our community. This engagement helps to shift our thinking, shape our practice, and foster a culture of inclusiveness and a sense of belonging for everyone at our centre. In short, we prioritise relationships, security and belonging for children, their families and our staff.
We use Storypark to ensure that all families have clear, consistent and frequent communication about their child’s day and exciting events and developments in our centre.
We look forward to welcoming you and your child to our wonderful centre.

I have been working in the early childhood sector for 20 years, and it truly is my passion. I began my career in Melbourne as an Assistant Director before moving to Torquay, where I spent 15 years at Goodstart Newtown—10 of those years as the Centre Director. During that time, I had the privilege of working alongside two Exceeding-rated teams and was incredibly proud to be part of the centre when we achieved Goodstart’s Centre of the Year.
I am deeply committed to safeguarding children and strongly believe in the power of early childhood education. The first five years are vital for brain development, and I take great pride in supporting educators to deliver high-quality programs that nurture, challenge, and inspire young children during this important stage.
On a personal note, I have five children of my own, all of whom attended the Newtown centre. My eldest, Millah, is in Year 7 at Iona College. Frankie (9) and Indi (8) attend Torquay Coast Primary School. We recently moved to Jan Juc, so Hendrix will begin Prep at Bellbrae in 2026, and Harvey will be joining me at Goodstart Torquay.
When I’m not busy being a mum, I love spending time at the beach, going shopping, enjoying holidays, and doing Pilates. These are the moments that help me recharge and stay balanced.
I consider myself a strong communicator and a collaborative team member. I hold high expectations for educators—not just for the sake of quality practice, but to ensure every child receives the best possible outcomes. At the same time, I lead with empathy and respect. I value my team deeply and treat my educators like family.
Although I am naturally a little nervous about transitioning to a new centre, I am genuinely excited to bring my experience, passion, and commitment to Goodstart Torquay. I look forward to getting to know all of you—children, families, and educators alike—and working together to create a warm, safe, and inspiring learning environment.

At Torquay, you and your child can enjoy the best of both worlds. Our early learning centre offers a Government-funded kindergarten program and long day care under the one roof. Our kindergarten teachers are University qualified and provide a play-based learning program that will support your child in learning the skills for school and life.
