Hobart West to offer government-funded kindergarten

Goodstart centres

Goodstart Hobart West has become one of first approved long-day care providers in Tasmania to deliver a government-funded kindergarten program.

Goodstart’s kindergarten program, designed to give children the skills they need for a confident start to school life, will officially commence on 14 February and will be delivered by a qualified early childhood teacher who has nearly 10 years’ experience in the sector.

Kindergarten programs delivered in a long-day care environment offer greater flexibility and convenience for working families by providing wrap-around care to suit individual family’s needs as they are not restricted to a 9am-3pm program.

Centre director Deb Manion said it was an exciting time for children, families and educators.

“It is a very special time for our educators as we prepare to welcome new families to our services and also to support those children already attending our services and who are this year moving into a new learning space appropriate to their age group,” Ms Manion said.

“We know this transition between rooms, and the transition to school, is an important and memorable time for children and their families and we work very hard to ensure the transition is as smooth and positive as possible for everyone involved,” she said.

Goodstart Early Learning manager for Tasmania, Chris Symons, said access to a high quality early learning program is so important in the first five years of a child’s life.

“Goodstart’s kindergarten program aims for the right mix of fun, structured learning and physical activity. Children will develop foundation literacy and numeracy skills and supports their social and emotional wellbeing – preparing them for a successful transition to school,” Mr Symons said.

“We are delighted this year to expand our play-based learning offering through offering a kindergarten program within a long-day care format five days a week, giving families greater flexibility and ensuring every child has access to the best possible early learning experience.”

Goodstart Hobart West is a world-class, contemporary facility offering 94 early learning and care places. It features exceptional indoor and outdoor play spaces for children that allows for gross motor play all year round.

To enquire about securing a place, or to arrange a centre tour, families should contact the centre directly. Goodstart Hobart West caters for children aged from six weeks to five years old and is located on 40 Molle Street.
