DROUGHT affected farmers will benefit directly from the community spirit shown at Goodstart Flagstone’s hoedown.

The event, which included market and food stalls, a farm animal petting zoo, mechanical bull and whip cracking, attracted a large local crowd and aimed to raise $1000 to help farmers in need.

Local community groups including the Flagstone Community Association, SES and Rural Fire Brigade threw their support behind the fundraiser and Jordan MP Charis Mullen attended the event.

Centre director Mandy Arthurell said the day was a huge success with funds raised exceeding their goal.

“We have raised in excess of $1200 and we are so chuffed with the response from the local community as well as our centre families. Now we know how well we can do this we hope to host a similar event each year.”

Educator Nikki Morton said the children loved being part of the event.

“We love to get into the community and help out. The more we get involved the better the community will be,” she said. “Hay is so expensive at the moment because of the drought and we want to help with the cost of feed and water.”

Flagstone Priority Development Area developers Peet donated bales of hay for the event.
